Although Steve Nash’s season (and potentially career) is over, the iconic point guard may still have a role with the Los Angeles Lakers this season.
No, it won’t be on the court but Lakers head coach Byron Scott suggests the team could Steve Nash around as a de facto assistant, assuming he wants to stay with the organization.
Nash’s continued nerve problems, which have plagued him for years now, finally got the better of the two-time NBA MVP so it’s unknown if he’ll have the ability to remain with the team in such a capacity. However it appears to be something Scott and the Lakers are open to doing in hopes that Nash can provide his wisdom to Los Angeles’ backcourt.
Steve Nash has stated he doesn’t know if he’s going to retire yet and the Toronto Raptors have all but suggested he has a front office job awaiting him once his playing days are over. However, might ‘coaching’ be something that intrigues Nash?
The point guard has previously stated that he prefers to remain in Southern California give the proximity to his children so it seems as if it could be a win-win for both the player and the organization. Steve Nash will still get to be around the Lakers and essentially honor his contract while the team still gets assistance from Nash even though he’s not physically providing it on the court.
For now it seems as if the health of Steve Nash is the pressing issue and will likely decide if he can stay on as a de facto assistant or if he’ll need to stay at home.
