Things looked bad early for Oklahoma State as the Mountaineers went up 14-0 quickly on two nice passing plays, but the Cowboys battled back. It was 14-10 at halftime, but West Virginia would go on to score 20 straight points to end the game. There were quite a few holes in the Cowboys’ defense, and Daxx Garman was unable to get anything going for the offense.

West Virginia has been known for having a dangerous aerial attack, but they had an impressive balance of both run and pass plays this afternoon. Clint Trickett ended up throwing for 238 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon, while completing 21 of his 30 passing attempts and not turning the football over. Garman on the other hand threw for 242 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions including a game sealing pick six for Dravon Henry.

Both Wendell Smallwood and Dreamius Smith had nice games on the ground for West Virginia, picking up 132 yards and 72 yards respectively with Smith scoring a touchdown. Tyreek Hill had a nice game on the ground for the Cowboys, carrying the football 14 times for 78 yards.

Mario Alford led the way in receiving for the Mountaineers on the afternoon with Kevin White having a bit of a slow game, catching seven passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. White caught just three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown. James Washington was the leading receiver for Oklahoma State with five catches for 87 yards.

Needless to say, this was an impressive win for the Mountaineers and they made a statement about just how good they are. There were still quite a few analysts and fans doubting them heading into this game, but that won’t be the case moving forward as much. They are legitimate contenders this season, and they are headed for a very nice bowl appearance.
