Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gsol never really thought about signing an extension with the Grizzlies and no one can blame him because it simply wouldn’t make nearly as much money as he will this summer.
There are plenty of teams that would love to get their hands on Marc Gasol, the 2012-2013 Defensive Player of the Year and many believe Phil Jackson, Derek Fisher and the New York Knicks will come calling. Phil Jackson, of course, coached Marc Gasol’s brother, Chicago Bulls‘ power Pau Gasol, with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Marc Gasol is trying not to think about free agency and wanted to focus on the upcoming season.
“That’s so far down the line that it’s not on my mind. I just want to do my freaking job every day,” Marc Gasol told the Memphis Commercial Appeal via Hoops Hype. “You never know what might happen in seven or eight months. The franchise might go in a different direction. We’re going to see how we all feel in July. All of the talk now won’t change that fact.”
His teammates don’t seem to think his free agency will be an issue.
It’s not going to be an issue with his situation,” forward Zach Randolph told the Associated Press. “It shouldn’t be. Believe me if Memphis don’t want him, there’s a lot of other teams that want him, so I don’t think he’s going anywhere. ”
The Grizzlies should be much improved and that could be a key to keeping Marc Gasol beyond this season.
Marc Gasol averaged 4.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, 18.2% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free throw line after missing 23 game with injuries.
