Chris Kreider has no plans to change the way he plays the game, despite increasing concerns

When New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider got ejected from the Rangers-Minnesota Wild game on Monday night, he understood the reasoning for it. His collision with Wild skater Jonas Brodin wasn’t exactly the most ideal hit the winger could have made.

Still, the fast-paced skater has no plans to change his play any time soon.

In an interview with the Daily News, Kreider shrugged it off. “It’s a bang-bang play, I can’t play the game slow. I can’t not get in on the forecheck.”

Of course, Kreider has been the source of scrutiny in the league before- and not that long ago, either. The 23-year-old Massachusetts native was criticized for his reckless play across the league during the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, when an unfortunate rush of Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price injured the netminder badly enough to knock him out of the remainder of the series.

Very few NHL fans dispute that Chris Kreider is a good hockey player. The forward led the Rangers last season in shooting percentage, and was a huge factor during the team’s extremely successful playoff run.

He’s becoming a little more than infamous for his reckless play, though- and in a league that is tightening down more every day on dirty and harmful play, he’ll have to be more careful. It doesn’t matter if that’s his preferred style of hockey- it does him little good to watch his team play from his spot on the sidelines, serving out a suspension.
