The Kansas City Royals blew the game open early in Game 6, defeating the San Francisco Giants by a final score of 10-0 and forcing a Game 7 in the 2014 World Series.

40. Final. 10. 7. 0

The Kansas City Royals left nothing to chance. They jumped on Jake Peavy and the San Francisco Giants early. They put Game 6 of the World Series in the bag before it even reached the third inning and cruised to an easy 10-0 victory. That means we will have a Game 7 on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy operated with a quick hook for Peavy…it was still too late by the time he took him out. Peavy lasted just 1.1 innings and ended up being charged with five earned runs. The score was 7-0 before this game reached the third inning. Mike Moustakas, Nori Aoki, Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, and Billy Butler all drove in runs in that second inning.

Moustakas would add a home run later in the action, and the Royals got to take a break from the tension to enjoy a laugher in front of a stadium full of partying fans.

On the pitching side of things for the Royals, Yordano Ventura pitched like an absolute star. With the initials of the late Oscar Taveras on his hat, glove, and cleats, Ventura threw a sparkling seven shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, overcame five walks, and struck out four hitters.

More importantly, the combination of Ventura’s good outing and the Royals’ offensive outburst means that the studs in the Kansas City bullpen got the night off. It will be all hands on deck in Game 7, and the Royals will have Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis, and Greg Holland with an extra day of rest.

Momentum has been fickle in this series. The Giants are a team built to wash this loss off quickly and start fresh in Game 7. That said, if ever there was a victory that would propel the Royals into a win in Game 7, it would be a blowout, statement win like this one. San Francisco had a chance to avoid a Game 7, and they were simply outclassed from wire to wire in Game 6.

Tim Hudson will start Game 7 for the Giants. Jeremy Guthrie will be on the mound for the Royals. An outstanding postseason will end with a Game 7 in the World Series. It doesn’t get much better than that.
