The Golden State Warriors and Thompson agreed to a four-year, $70 million contract on Friday, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Thompson has long been pushing for a max contract. However, the Warriors were reportedly millions of apart in recent negotiations with Thompson. However, hours before Friday’s midnight deadline on contract extensions for first-round picks from the NBA’s 2011 Draft class, Golden State caved.
It appears that might have partly been a result of the Sacramento Kings attempt to trade for Thompson.
The Warriors selected Thompson with the No. 11 pick of the 2011 draft. Thompson has career averages of 16.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
