The match up between the No. 3 Auburn Tigers and the No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday night lived up to the hype on Saturday night, and when it was all said and done, it was the defending SEC champions that came out with the 35-31 win on the road in Oxford.

Down 31-28 early in the fourth quarter, Auburn running back Cameron Artis-Payne, who finished the fame with 138 yards on 27 carries, scored what would be the winning touchdown from six yards out.

But it wasn’t all Auburn in this one. Once again, the miracle Tigers had to come back to get the win and keep their title chances alive. The Tigers would get the 7-0 lead early with a Nick Marshall TD run, but that was followed up with an answer right back from Ole Miss running back I’Tavius Mathers.

Ole Miss would end up taking a 17-14 lead into the half, sending fans on the Grove into an uproar over the fact that they could be keeping their national championship hopes alive.

The Rebels would go up by as much as 24-14 in the third quarter, but Auburn would then score two unanswered touchdowns, another run by Marshall and a TD throw from the Tigers quarterback to Marcus Davis.

Down 28-24 in the fourth quarter, Bo Wallace then took matters into his own hands with a scoring run of his own, putting his team back on top, albeit for just a short amount of time.

After Wallace turned the ball over on a late drive in the fourth when he fumbled trying to get a first down near the goal line, they Rebels defense would step up and get the ball back for the offense, but that is when disaster struck.

It appeared as if Ole Miss was going to get the win when Laquon Treadwell darted through the Auburn defense to the end zone, however it was found that he fumbled the ball into the end zone, which was recovered by the Tigers. To make matters much worse, Treadwell severely injured his ankle on the play and was carted off the field.

Auburn was able to hang on from there, and they’ll now continue on with their quest for a spot in the College Football Playoff, while the hopes for Ole Miss are all but out the window at this point.
