Cleveland Cavaliers Facebook Likes Make Big Jump
By Ed Carroll
The Cleveland Cavaliers Facebook Page has seen a nearly 20 percent increase since July 29, likely due to the acquisitions of NBA stars LeBron James and Kevin Love.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a dissapointing 1-3 to start the young NBA season, but the team has already seen incredible growth in one area: the number of Facebook users to “like” the team’s page on the site, an almost 20 percent growth in likes since July 29.

Citing data from The Wall Street Journal, the Cavaliers have seen a 19.7 percent increase in activity on the team’s Facebook site since the end of July, a pretty massive spike in such a short period of time. It was the biggest increase by any NBA team, and likely aided by the return of hometown star LeBron James (who had announced his intentions to return to the Cavs earlier in July) and the acquisition of star forward Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cleveland also added notable reserves in Mike Miller and Shawn Marion, and a new head coach in David Blatt.
The newly-re-branded Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) had the second-biggest increase, at 15.5 percent, and the Toronto Raptors, who have been making a concentrated effort to attract Canadian fans, were the only other team in double-digit increases, at 10 percent.
Cleveland has struggled to incorporate the new players and Blatt has had trouble making adjustments, but the optimism by Cavs fans is understandable, and it’s likely a matter of time before the team starts to play better.
