Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott suggests Kobe Bryant needs to take a step back on the offensive side of the ball.

After the Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Phoenix Suns to start the season 0-5, it appeared as if the frustration with losing was starting to mount.

Kobe Bryant took 37 shots in the loss and teammate Jordan Hill suggested that it was on the rest of the team to step up as the Black Mamba can’t do it all by himself. It’s a sentiment echoed by head coach Byron Scott as he wants Bryant to take a step back on the offensive side of the ball.

“I’ve got to remind him not to chase the ball at times, to let those guys play because sometimes you’ve got to let guys make mistakes,” Scott said. “He tries to bail them out at times. That’s a habit that he has and he knows that he has to try to break that. That’s hard. He’s been playing this game and he’s one of those guys, ‘OK, if you guys are not doing it, give it to me and I’ll try to do it myself.’ That’s the competitive nature that he has.”

While players like Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer are on the roster, the Los Angeles Lakers simply aren’t that talented and Kobe Bryant – right or wrong – seems to feel the need to take over the entire team. Of course that was much easier when he was 27-years-old and not coming off two knee injuries which forced the NBA icon to miss last season.

Known to be hard-headed it remains to be seen if Kobe Bryant will take Scott’s advice, though if the losses continue to mount and the poor play continues you have to figure all parties reaching a boiling point isn’t that far away.
