After falling 6-2 to the Buffalo Sabres, Leafs forward Phil Kessel doesn’t want to talk about it

To be fair, Phil, this is pretty much how the Boston Bruins felt about losing 6-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

More from Buffalo Sabres

After defeating the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night, the Leafs went on a bit of a downward slide, first losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Friday night and then to the Buffalo Sabres 6-2 on Saturday.

The Leafs have struggled against similarly struggling teams so far this season, defeating powerhouses like the Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and Ottawa Senators — yet falling to teams like the Sabres, Colorado Avalanche, and Arizona Coyotes. They’ve had nights where they simply shut down, allowing too many goals to catch back up before realizing that they’ve fallen behind.

Whether they thought this was one of those nights or not, though, the skaters clearly weren’t thrilled about losing to the last place team in the NHL. During the media time following the loss, Leafs forward Phil Kessel wasn’t exactly forthcoming with his answers:

It’s fair to assume that Kessel was upset over the loss; this would have been only the Sabres’ fourth win so far this season, as they sit a full three points behind the next highest teams in the league, which would be the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes. Both teams had monstrous injury-related losing streaks; the Sabres, on the other hand, just seem to be that bad.

Kessel and his Leafs will have some time to shake off the loss, at least — the franchise doesn’t play again until Tuesday, when they face off against the Nashville Predators.
