Two prominent names mentioned all year long as possible successors to Muschamp were dismissed as candidates, according to Brett McMurphy who reported Florida is not interested in Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez or Mississippi State head coach and former Florida assistant Dan Mullen, but both find themselves listed below.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is the betting favorite to be the next head coach with Colorado State’s Jim McElwain close behind after leading the Rams to a 9-1 record so far this year. Bob Stoops was an assistant under Steve Spurrier before taking the Oklahoma job, but he said on Monday he is not a candidate anywhere but at Oklahoma.

Two-time Super Bowl winning head coach Mike Shanahan and former Gators offensive coordinator from 1980-1983, Mike Shanahan, former Florida head coach Steve Spurrier, Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze, TCU head coach Gary Patterson and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn round out the list.

One name not mentioned is former Oregon head coach and current head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Chip Kelly, who could be a desired candidate for athletic director Jeremy Foley, but with him stating at Monday’s press conference he’d like to have a hire in place my December, the chances of that would be a real long shot.
