The Indianapolis Colts are interested in claiming Ben Tate on NFL waivers after he was released by the Cleveland Browns.

The Indianapolis Colts need some help at the running back position with Ahmad Bradshaw being ruled out for the season due to a broken leg, and Ben Tate was released by the Cleveland Browns today. Many have already connected the dots and thought that the Colts should show interest in signing him, and that has become a fact.

According to a report from Mike Wells of ESPN.com, the Colts have interest in Tate and are looking into claiming him.

From ESPN.com:

"The team has also begun researching running back Ben Tate — including his character and potential fit in Indy’s scheme — and appear interested in possibly claiming him off waivers from the Browns, a source told ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler."

Tate has carried the football 527 times for 2,325 yards and 14 touchdowns throughout his career, and has proven himself to be a capable starter in his time with the Houston Texans. He was playing solid football before the injury this season in Cleveland, and didn’t receive too much work when he came back.

At just 26 years of age, Tate has plenty of time left and good football left in the tank. The Colts would be getting a much better starting running back than Trent Richardson, and Tate would be exactly what the doctor ordered to help take some pressure off of Andrew Luck. There are plenty of other teams that will have interest in claiming Tate, which could end up throwing a wrench in the Colts’ plans.

That being said, fans should be excited that the Colts are indeed looking to improve their roster in a major way. Tate would be a huge addition at this point in the season, but they aren’t necessarily going to get him. If they aren’t able to claim him, LeGarrette Blount could be another option after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier today as well.
