Power hitters are hard to find for MLB teams, and the Chicago White Sox have reportedly landed one of the few options available by agreeing to a deal with first baseman Adam LaRoche.

A lot of teams could have used a power bat at first base. Adam LaRoche presumably had his pick of a number of opportunities. It is certainly a surprise, then, that LaRoche ended up on the team that already has Jose Abreu, but that is exactly what has happened.

Even if they have Abreu, the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year, at first base, that does not mean the White Sox were not in the market for some power. They traded Adam Dunn to the Oakland Athletics last season and lost Paul Konerko to retirement. As it is, the production from both of those veterans was spotty.

Adding LaRoche instills some legit pop to go with Abreu in the middle of the Chicago lineup. Deciding how to divide up playing time at first base between those two is certainly a welcome problem for the White Sox.

Bob Nightengale reported the signing.

For a guy who batted .259/.362/.455 with 26 home runs in 140 games last season, that contract could end up being a nice value for the White Sox.

They might not have been the first team people thought of in connection with LaRoche, but this is a sneaky-good signing in Chicago as the off-season gets started.
