East Carolina wide receiver Justin Hardy set an FBS record for career pass receptions, breaking former Oklahoma receiver Ryan Broyles’ mark

Justin Hardy needed four receptions to break the FBS record for career receptions in East Carolina’s game against Tulane today and that was no tall order for the prolific receiver who surpassed the record held by the former Sooner on a pass from his trusted quarterback Shane Carden.

Hardy broke the previous record of 349 set by Broyles in 2011 when he made his second All-American team with Oklahoma before his season came to a premature end after suffering a torn ACL. Funny on the day that Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine breaks the FBS single-game rushing record that another Sooner would lose his record.

The 6-1, 188-pound native of Vanceboro, NC entered the game with 80 receptions for 1,0002 yards, the third straight season he had at least 80 catches and more than 1,000 yards. He had a career-high 114 receptions and 1,284 yards last season.

Hardy will look to put some distance between himself and Broyles with two more regular season games and a bowl game remaining. Considering the pass-happy offense that East Carolina runs, Hardy should be able to add another 15-20 receptions to his career total and that may even be a conservative estimate.
