Bengals Vs Texans Final Score: Methodical Effort Leads Bengals To 22-13 Win
Cincinnati’s defense kept the Houston Texans’ offense out of the end zone as the Bengals bolstered their AFC North lead with a 22-13 road win
Unless J.J. Watt learns how to throw accurately downfield, the Houston Texans will have a major issue at quarterback.
The Cincinnati Bengals increased their lead in the AFC South by keeping the Texans’ offense out of the end zone as quarterback Andy Dalton gained his first win over his hometown team with a 22-13 victory. With the win, Cincinnati improved to 7-3-1 while dropping the Texans one step closer to postseason nonexistence at 5-6.
While Dalton completed 24 of 35 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown, it was the play of the Cincinnati defense that defined the contest, holding Houston to just 238 total yards while harassing quarterback Ryan Mallett, who managed just 189 yards and completed just 21 of his 46 attempts. Without running back Arian Foster for a second straight week, the run game — which gashed the Cleveland Browns last week — produced only 48 yards.
Houston’s only touchdown came on a Johnathan Joseph 60-yard interception return midway in the third quarter that cut the Texans’ margin to 16-10. A Randy Bullock 25-yard field goal pushed Houston within three with 1:48 left in the quarter, but the Bengals iced the game with field goals of 31 and 49 yards from Mike Nugent in the fourth quarter.
The Bengals dominated time of possession, as they controlled the clock for a staggering 39:10. The ability to convert on third down (Cincy was 11 of 19, while the Texans were just 4 of 14) was a huge factor in why Cincinnati moved one step closer to the postseason, while the Texans continue their search for an offense.
