Stanford would love to end UCLA’s College Football Playoff hopes when the two teams meet on Friday, but the Cardinal will have to do so without senior wide receiver Ty Montgomery, who will be sidelined with a right shoulder sprain.
Montgomery suffered the injury during Stanford’s win over California last Saturday. The Cardinal expect that Montgomery will be healthy enough to participate in his final game with the program, which will come in whatever bowl game the 6-5 Cards will participate in.
The native of Dallas caught 61 passes for 604 yards and three touchdowns this season for Stanford while also adding 144 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Montgomery has 172 catches for 2,125 yards and 15 touchdowns in his four years with the program. His spot in the lineup will be filled by senior Jordan Pratt, who has just four catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Losing Montgomery costs Stanford their one true threat at wide receiver. The Cardinal is ranked 61st among FBS teams with 231.5 passing yards per game.
Montgomery is regarded as one of the top prospects at wideout among the 2015 draft class. He is ranked seventh overall at the position and 43rd overall according to CBSSports.com’s most recent ranking of draft prospects, making him a projected second round pick. He is third behind West Virginia’s Kevin White and Louisville’s DeVante Parker among the senior wide receiver class.
