The Florida Gators are looking for a new head coach in wake of Will Muschamp being dismissed and former Gators legend Emmitt Smith has a few very bold ideas.

When the Florida Gators fired Will Muschamp this season, there was instant speculation that a big name head coach was going to succeed him in his position.

So far names like Mike Shanahan, Jim Harbaugh and Hugh Freeze have been kicked around with varying degrees of seriousness — and probability — but there are some names that Emmitt Smith would like to see thrown into the mix as well.

If it were up to Emmitt Smith, the Florida Gators would be going after LSU head coach Les Miles or Texas head coach Charlie Strong.

This is interesting in that the LSU Tigers will not just allow Les Miles to walk to an SEC opponent like Florida. It’s also interesting that Smith would be vouching for Charlie Strong who has not only struggled at Texas — albeit with a mediocre team — but wasn’t that popular of a choice to begin with.

Smith knows a thing or two about what makes a great head coach as he played under a few in his day. One thing Smith hasn’t had much experience with though is actually coaching as it’s easy to be great if you’re a good player playing for a decent coach. That doesn’t mean Smith is a poor judge, it just means he’s one with questionable judgement.
