By now you’ve seen Richard Sherman’s over the top press conference which included a cardboard cutout of teammate Doug Baldwin (while Baldwin voiced his cutout from behind). If for some strange reason you haven’t, in short the Seattle Seahawks defensive back showed up to a media session and called out the NFL for being hypocritical.

Sherman started talking about all the brands he’s associated with (Neef, Campbell’s, Beats by Dre) and how he’s not allowed to peddle companies unless they’re part of the NFL’s structure and how the league continues to preach player safety but has teams playing two games in a matter of five days.

Needless to say it was an obvious blast directed towards the NFL though the league currently has no comment on Sherman’s actions.

"The league apparently doesn’t know what to make of it either; the NFL has no comment on Sherman’s antics. However, despite Sherman’s gratuitous reference to the headphone company that sponsors him personally but not the NFL, don’t look for Sherman to be fined."

Understandably the NFL doesn’t want players going rogue like Richard Sherman did though at the same time he didn’t really do anything ‘illegal’ outside of being smug and dropping mild endorsements. Is simply saying a product name truly an endorsement though as he wasn’t wearing the headphones or eating the soup, rather just bringing it up in conversation.

It was an incredibly well calculated circus event put on by Sherman though you have to wonder if the Seattle Seahawks were all that thrilled. Sure, they want their players to stand up for themselves but now the heat from the spotlight is even warmer and it’s become somewhat of a major distraction just a day before Seattle’s Thanksgiving day game.
