The Boston Bruins say they want ‘more size up front’… and Jordan Nolan is being shopped back East

Happy Thanksgiving, Bruins fans!

More from Boston Bruins

This tweet, put out by Bruins Insider Joe Haggerty, is a harsh reminder to Boston fans that the team has been forced to part with a big chunk of their ‘physical’ presence in the past few seasons. With a number of fast, skilled players working their way through the system, the Bruins were forced to pick between size and skill — and with limited cap space this off-season, they had to do away with the majority of the ‘size’.

This franchise has been known for it’s ‘toughness’ since the beginning of time, though — and funnily enough, the team has admitted they’re trying to find a way back to that just days after TSN’s Bob McKenzie announced that the Los Angeles Kings were receiving calls about enforcer Jordan Nolan… from teams back East.

Nolan, 25, has been in trouble around the league for a number of physical offenses in recent years, the most recent coming just weeks ago with a two-game suspension for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm.

Despite his seeming lack of self-control, though, it’s hard to argue with either Nolan’s size or skill — playing fourth line minutes, Jordan Nolan still manages to take home 5-10 points a season. Standing at 6-foot-3 and coming in at 225lbs, Nolan certainly has what the Bruins are looking for.

The biggest question that stands in the way of this being a presumed done deal, of course, is who the Bruins would be willing to part with for Nolan. The Kings made it pretty clear that they’d be willing to send the winger out ‘for the right defenseman’… and the Bruins are still somewhat lacking in cap space. Nolan’s $700,000 cap hit could easily be swapped with a slightly pricier player to shed a little more cap room — but the Bruins already gave top four blue liner Johnny Boychuk to the New York Islanders at the start of the season. They might not be willing to part with another big d-man so soon.

Maybe they could give the Kings Matt Bartkowski? Bruins fans might not be too cut up about that trade.
