New York Jets Coaching Staff Didn’t Want Geno Smith To Start
By Josh Hill
The New York Jets says ‘everyone is on board’ with Geno Smith starting this week but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
When Geno Smith was benched in favor of Michael Vick earlier in the season, many thought that it was time for the young quarterback to take a step back and grow a little. John Idzik and Woody Johnson apparently have other plans as the decision to reverse the starting roles this Sunday came from the top.

Despite saying this week that the decision to start Geno Smith was mutual within the locker room, it appears that there is some push back from the coaching staff after Rex Ryan made the announcement that Geno Smith was starting again.
According to Manish Meta from the New York Daily News, Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is no in favor of starting Geno Smith over Michael Vick this week — or any weeks — until he gets better
"Sources told the Daily News that offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was among the majority of people in the organization, including players, who wanted to stick with Vick. Ryan also preferred the veteran, but placated his superiors to avoid conflict on his way out.Ryan, the quintessential people pleaser, isn’t interested in sabotaging GM John Idzik or owner Woody Johnson during his final few weeks."
A power struggle was going t be inevitable the way the Jets have been playing this season, as the Jets coaching staff will likely all be gone at the end of the season and they need to audition their talents to the world. That’s easier said than done — clearly — as the Jets have cracks all over their team with this recent decision being a straw that could break everyone’s back before the season is over.
