The Chicago Blackhawks crush the Anaheim Ducks in a violent, rivalry-filled game

The Chicago Blackhawks might have come away with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Friday night, but the Pacific Division team certainly didn’t make it nice for their opponents.

The entire game was a harsh reminder to fans that these two teams share no love — and apparently, Ryan Kesler and Niklas Hjalmarsson wouldn’t mind actually beating one another to a pulp. Hjalmarsson landed a devastating blow on Kesler late in the first period (though not late enough to stop Hampus Lindholm from scoring the Ducks’ one and only goal of the night immediately afterward); although Kesler didn’t skate out immediately in the second period, he did get in Hjalmarsson’s face quite a bit by the end of those twenty minutes.

Kesler isn’t the only player who might be nursing some serious bruises after tonight; Ducks forward Kyle Palmieri was ejected from the game after he crashed Blackhawks blue liner Johnny Oduya into the boards towards the end of the second period. He received a game misconduct on the hit, which was delivered about two feet out from the team benches and seemed to smack Oduya’s head into the top of the team wall.

Although the Ducks were short a few players in the loss, though, they refused to blame the outcome of the game on absentee skaters; according to the team’s Twitter account, Ryan Kesler insisted that those on the ice simply didn’t put in their full effort.

After a slow start to the season, this win brought the Chicago franchise to a 14-8-1 record on the season.
