Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice won his appeal of his indefinite suspension and is eligible to play immediately if and when a team signs him and the Indianapolis Colts could be the team to give him a second chance

Ray Rice won his appeal that he was widely expected to win based on the grounds that he was suspended twice for the same offense and first time offenders of the new domestic violence policy get a six-game suspension and Rice had been suspended for 11 games.

He has been eligible to sign with anyone during his indefinite suspension but no team has been willing to take the risk of the PR nightmare and bring in a player whose videotaped assault of his then-fiancee Janay Palmer has been viewed countless times. However, CBS Sports’ Jason La Candora suggests the Indianapolis Colts could be the team to give him a second chance.

La Canfora also writes that Rice was having a strong preseason and has kept himself in great shape during his time away from the field since he was released on Sept. 8, and the Colts could use a proven commodity at running back after losing veteran back Ahmad Bradshaw for the year to a broken leg. The Colts are starting Daniel “Boom” Herron and still have the pedestrian Trent Richardson but would Rice be what the team needs to make a push for the postseason to challenge the AFC elite? Last season Rice averaged 3.1 yards per carry and had 660 yards and four touchdowns. If that’s the type of production they can expect, they already have Richardson for that role and he doesn’t come with the baggage that Rice will. Sure, if they got the old Rice and not an old Rice then this could be an asset for the football team, but the cost of angering their fan base over a signing such as this could be too risky.
