Ray Rice was originally suspended two games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for assaulting his then-fiancee Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City casino elevator in a February attack that threatened to end his NFL career.
Once video was leaked of what happened inside the elevator, the Baltimore Ravens released their starting running back and Goodell changed his suspension to an indefinite one.
Rice appealed the suspension on the grounds that he was suspended twice for the same infraction and on Friday the judge presiding over the case ruled in favor of Rice who is now eligible to return to the field.
The ruling is not necessarily surprising as he was punished for the same incident. What would be surprising is if a team were to sign Rice to help make their push toward the postseason.
Considering the ugly PR nightmare that would ensure from signing a player whose attack on his wife has been seen countless times from people across the country, I find it hard to believe that any team would be willing to bring in that controversy to their locker room and bring a distraction to the franchise.
Furthermore, Rice has been out of action since September 8 when he was released and even when he was on the field last year he had his worst season as a pro with 660 yards and a 3.1 yards per carry average.
He’s bad, he’s been out of work and he was videotaped knocking out his fiancee who is now his wife with a punch to the face and then proceeded to walk over her unconscious body.
Does that sound like the type of player NFL teams will be beating down the door to sign?
