Alabama responded to a 12-point deficit early in the second half with touchdowns on its next five possessions for a 55-44 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Blake Sims responded to adversity like a champion Saturday night, bouncing back from three interceptions in the first 31 minutes of the game to guide the Alabama Crimson Tide to a 55-44 win over the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl.

Sims threw his third pick on the second play from scrimmage of the second half and Auburn turned it into a touchdown for a 33-21 lead.

But it was all Alabama (11-1) from there. The Tide scored touchdowns on five straight possessions for a 55-36 win over Auburn (8-4).

Sims finished 20-of-27 for 312 yards and four touchdowns and also scored on an 11-yard run early in the fourth quarter to give the Tide the lead for good.

Auburn took a lead late in the first half on a 68-yard pass from Nick Marshall to Sammie Coates and after Sims’ second interception, Daniel Carlson kicked the fourth of his five field goals in the game to put the Tigers up 26-21 at the break.

After Carlson kicked a 33-yard field goal to give Auburn a 36-27 lead with 3:30 to go in the third quarter, Alabama responded, going deep on the first play after the kickoff.

Sims hit Amari Cooper with a 75-yard touchdown pass—Cooper’s third touchdown reception of the game—to make it 36-34.

Marshall threw one interception, but it was costly, as it eventually set up Sims on the go-ahead score.

Auburn gashed Alabama’s fifth-ranked defense for 630 yards, more than double the 283.5 the Tide had allowed coming into the game. Alabama finished with 541 total yards.

Cooper tied career-highs with 13 receptions, 224 receiving yards and three touchdown catches (yes, those were all his career highs before).

T.J. Yeldon scored two touchdowns for Alabama and finished with 127 rushing yards on 19 carries. Derrick Henry had 72 yards on five carries and scored a late 25-yard touchdown.

Coates ended up with 206 yards on just five catches and scored twice. D’haquille Williams had seven receptions for 121 yards, while Marshall was 27-for-43 for 456 yards and three scores.

Auburn will now await its bowl invitation, while Alabama will face Missouri at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta next week for the SEC championship.
