Ohio State honors Troy Smith by putting his number 10 jersey up on the Ohio Stadium facade.

Ohio State announced last week that they intended to honor Jim Tressel era great Troy Smith in the season finale game against Michigan. They remained true to their word as this Vine shows.

Smith’s number was not retired, but became the eighth number to be displayed around Ohio Stadium, according to a previous report by College Football Talk. Smith was the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner and was 3-0 playing against Michigan, so it makes sense to honor him at a game against the Wolverines. He was also one of the best players during Tressel’s tenure and quarterback of some of the best Ohio State teams during that time.

"“It’s time to honor one of our all-time greats,” Gene Smith, university Vice President and Director of Athletics, said this week via CFT. “Troy’s playing days are over. His accomplishments and achievements as an Ohio State Buckeye are legendary. And we are so proud to be able to recognize this young man by honoring his name and number in Ohio Stadium.”"

Smith’s number is currently being worn by Jalyn Holmes, a freshman defensive end, and there are no plans to retire the number. Ohio State released a statement from Troy Smith about the honor.

"“Being recognized like this from such a prestigious university like The Ohio State University usually doesn’t happen until later years down the line,” Smith said in statement shared by Ohio State. “So this is a special time in my life and an important time.”"

Smith is currently a free agent after being released by the CFL Montreal Alouettes in October.
