The Cleveland Browns have informed Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel that Manziel will start for the first time in his NFL career.

More from Cleveland Browns

There has been quite a bit of talk about whether or not it is time that Johnny Manziel takes over the starting quarterback role for the Cleveland Browns this week, and the team has finally made a decision. According to a report from Jay Glazer, the Browns have informed both Brian Hoyer and Manziel that the rookie will be the starter in Week 15 against the division rival Cincinnati Bengals at home.

Obviously this news is going to begin a very exciting week for Browns fans, and it is the start of a new era of football in Cleveland. Manziel showed a lot of potential two weeks ago when he took over late in the game for Hoyer, and ran in his first career touchdown.

Hoyer did an excellent job getting the Browns to this point in the season, but he’s beginning to fall apart as the pressure rises. He has won some big games against quality football teams, but has backed up those wins with bad losses. Cleveland still believes they have a legitimate chance to get into the playoffs, but they need to get back to winning consistently in order to make that happen.

At the very least, even if the Browns don’t end up making the playoffs they can begin building for the future. Ian Rapoport confirmed that Manziel will be starting, and added that head coach Mike Pettine made the decision on Monday.

There have been plenty of question marks surrounding Manziel over the past couple of years, but he has been working hard to earn this opportunity. He has stayed out of the media off-the-field, and has been much more careful with his decision making.

It’s going to be a fun week in the NFL with Manziel taking over as the quarterback in Cleveland in a huge game. He is going to have a play a nearly perfect football game in order to come away with a win in his first career start, but he has the talent to get the job done. The receivers are also going to have to step up and make some plays to get their rookie quarterback as much confidence as he can get.

Johnny Football’s time has come in Cleveland , and it’s going to be a very exciting end of the season.
