The New York Jets are just a terrible franchise, but Heisman Trophy star Marcus Mariota thinks he might be able to fix them.

Marcus Mariota is the best college football quarterback this season, but he may not end up being the best of his draft class. That being said, everyone and their grandma happen to be ready to draft Mariota to their team and the New York Jets are one of the teams at the front of the line.

With former potential franchise quarterback Mark Sanchez now in Philadelphia and current potential franchise quarterback Geno Smith struggling mightily, Mariota is looking like a serious option for a new Jets regime this spring. If he falls to them, wherever they pick, then the Oregon quarterback is not opposed to playing in New York.

According to Burt Hubbuch of the Post, if the Jets were to draft Marcus Mariota — which is a very real possibility — then

"“If the Jets like me and it happens that they take me, I’ll be the best Jet I can be and play my heart out for them,” said Mariota. “I’ll do whatever it takes to win games. I would love to play for them.”"

Of course, Mariota doesn’t seem like he’s the type of player who would go Eli Manning and boycott a team who picks him. To be fair, the Jets are currently a boycottable team if there ever has been one. There will be a new head coach in town and a new system, and Mariota might be what the Jets have needed all along.

If that’s the case, at least he’s open to the idea of playing with one of the worst teams in the NFL.
