One of the more important aspects of the College Football Playoff was revealed on Monday as we learned the officiating crews that will be overseeing the contests.

We’re a mere few weeks away from the inaugural College Football Playoff. Last weekend we learned what the first ever match ups will be as No. 1 Alabama will take on No. 4 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, while the No. 2 Oregon Ducks will take on the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles out in Pasadena inside the Rose Bowl.

On Monday we learned about a very important aspect for both of these games–who the officiating crews will be.

According to ESPN’s Chris Fowler, the battle between Alabama and Ohio State will be officiated by Pac-12 referees, while the Florida State-Oregon showdown will be overseen by a crew from the mighty SEC.

These are both interesting bits of information, seeing as both crews come with their own reputation. So, let’s have a look at both.

Sugar Bowl, Pac-12 Refs

Ah, yes, the Pac-12 officials. This is the crew that not many get to see because, well, generally they’re asleep by the time a lot of the big games come on Saturdays. They get to miss out on such amazing calls like this:

Or, remember this?:

So, more or less, you’re screwed, Buckeyes and Tide. Your grandmother is going to get a holding call. But come on, Ohio State fans, you’re telling me you don’t miss Glasses Ref?

Alright now that we’ve established that Ohio State and Alabama are going to be thrown into a black hole of ineptness for their biggest game of the season, let’s move on.

Advantage: LOL, they’re both screwed

Rose Bowl, SEC Refs

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! That’s exactly what the SEC refs are going to allow to happen in this game; some good old fashioned football. Which, may or may not give the favorable nod to Florida State in this one.

Yeah, Oregon, you might not wanna turn around too many times in this one and look for that questionable pass interference or holding call, because you’re not going to get the southern hospitality you’re looking for.

In reality, you’re probably going to get something along the lines of, “Take ya’ll pansy ass back to that huddle and quit yer whinin’!”

Are we maybe putting too much emphasis on referees? Eh, maybe; but that’s part of the problem with having so much time in between the regular season and these games!’

Advantage: Florida State ’bout to hurt someone

Now are we putting too much emphasis on simple referee assignments? Maybe, but hey, this is college football, overreaction to men in zebra stripes is what we do best!
