With just two games remaining in the Chicago Bears’ regular season, most would have assumed that Jay Cutler would finish out the campaign as the starting quarterback.
No, he hasn’t played well but considering the money owed to Cutler and the lack of alternatives on the pine, benching Jay Cutler seemed unlikely. It’s a sentiment Cutler shared himself as he says he was ‘shocked’ and ‘disappointed’ when he learned Jimmy Clausen would handle the starting quarterback duties in Week 16.
Cutler’s benching comes just says after Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer had to tearfully apologize for being the leak who suggested the franchise was having buyers remorse over Jay Cutler’s mega contract. Despite the shocking nature of the benching, Jay Cutler doesn’t appear to be holding it against the franchise or head coach Marc Trestman as he says he’s still willing to play under the coach next season:
Of course, that would assume that Trestman is still around which seems questionable at best currently.
Benching aside, Jay Cutler says he’s committed to the Chicago Bears and would like to stay with the organization moving forward.
Nice as Cutler’s sentiment is, you have to imagine the quarterback wouldn’t mind a change of scenery with how things have unfolded in the Windy City and fans are likely to feel the same way.
