Despite showing heavy interest, the Sacramento Kings are apparently not interested in trading for Rajon Rondo at the Boston Celtics‘ current asking price.

More from Boston Celtics

A few months ago the Sacramento Kings were said to have engaged the Boston Celtics in trade talks for former All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo.

While Rondo allegedly initially stated he wouldn’t re-sign with the Kings once he became a free agent, the hope in California’s capital was that Rondo would be paired with good friend and fellow former Kentucky Wildcats star, DeMarcus Cousins.

There was also talk of obtaining Josh Smith, another good buddy of Rondo’s to complete the triangle.

None of such happened and it appeared as if the Boston Celtics were going to hang onto their point guard until yesterday when rumors began to circulate Rondo was back on the trade block. The Sacramento Kings were said to want in but have apparently deemed the asking price too high and currently are not planning to engage in trade talks.

While there’s no mention of what the Boston Celtics are asking for, it’s presumed they’re seeking draft picks along with young talent. The Sacramento Kings do have both and could potentially part with guards Ben McLemore or Nik Stauskas but don’t appear overly eager to do so. They also do not have a 2017 first-round draft pick to move, so the earliest the Boston Celtics could obtain in a trade with Sacramento is a 2018 selection.

Rajon Rondo paired up with Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins seems to be a bit of an odd fit anyway, but it’s difficult to know what the Sacramento Kings front office is thinking on a day-to-day basis. For now it appears as if Rajon Rondo is not in their plans.
