Entering the series finale, all we knew is that Neal and Peter were set to join the Pink Panthers for one final con as they attempted to steal $500 million.

We quickly learned that Neal, Mozzie and Neal’s arch rival, Matthew Keller, had planned to take $30 million of the funds for themselves. A plan was in place and the men headed to the airport for the con.

The Pink Panthers completed the con with Peter and Neal’s help, as Mozzie funneled out the $30 million for their side job.

The FBI came swooping in at the end of the con, before Neal and Keller escaped to go recover their money with Mozz. Keller brought a knife to the party, but Neal had a gun and allowed Mozzie to escape with $20 million of the score. Neal and Keller then got into a battle over the gun and Neal went to the ground with blood pouring out of his chest.

Neal had activated his tracking anklet, so Peter was already on his way.

Peter caught Keller and got into a standoff, before shooting Keller in the head. He then went to find Neal, who was being loaded into an ambulance. In the next scene, it appeared that Neal was dead and Peter and Mozzie wept over the loss of their good friend.

But was that it? Could the White Collar series finale really end with the death of the main character? It appeared that way. To finish the show, we went one year into the future. Peter and Mozzie went about their lives and discussed the depression and denial of Neal’s death, with Mozzie saying it may have been Neal’s final and best con.

Mozzie then visited the Burke’s, left before dinner, and Peter and Elizabeth enjoyed a bottle of wine as their son, “Neal,” went to sleep.

However, we then got a wild ending to the show.

Peter was drinking the win and started recalling a number of visions from Neal’s last steps. At that point, he remembered he had a key in front of a storage box that Neal mysteriously visited.

It was at that point Peter realized Neal had faked his own death with a mountain of evidence.

The final scene showed Neal walking the streats of Paris, with his freedom finally guaranteed.

It was a brilliant ending to the show — which took us on a wild ride and ended the series with a con of its own to the fans, before revealing the true ending.
