Max Pacioretty is immortal, could return to Montreal Canadiens lineup as early as Saturday

When Zdeno Chara basically murdered Max Pacioretty a few years ago, the entire league watched on in disbelief as the American forward made not only a full but a speedy recovery from an actual broken neck.

For those who saw the hit, it had seemed possibly fatal — although Chara wasn’t entirely to blame, Pacioretty hit the wrong part of the boards and seemed to go down for good. It’s amazing enough that he’s even back on the ice at all, much less continuing to be one of the most undervalued players in the NHL.

Clayton Stoner’s hit on Pacioretty during Thursday’s matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks shouldn’t have even worried us, in retrospect.

Pacioretty has earned the nickname ‘Wolverine’ around the league for his fierce eyebrow game and striking resemblance to the X-men character, but apparently he’s got the gift of immortality, too — although he seemed a little shaky when Stoner trashed him, the Canadiens have confirmed that Pacioretty is a possibility for Saturday’s game.

I mean, Wolverine gets a little shaky when he’s basically killed too, right?

TVA’s Renaud Lavoie confirmed this week that Pacioretty seems to be recovering from the hit quite well, insisting that ‘anything is possible’ in regards to the forward skating out on Saturday. How is this real? Martin Hanzal misses weeks at a time because he lunges a little too wide to block shots sometimes. I don’t get it.

With thirteen goals on the season, the Canadiens have to be thrilled that Pacioretty is making such a remarkable recovery. I, on the other hand, am extremely suspicious and think the league needs to have rules against players who have the gift of eternal life being allowed to play. It doesn’t seem like a fair advantage.
