The Philadelphia Eagles got upset by the Washington Redskins on Saturday night, and the loss means the Detroit Lions have clinched a playoff spot with two games left to play in their season.

With one week left in the NFL season after this Sunday, there playoff picture is starting to shore up and solidify as more and more teams clinch spots left and right. Sometimes teams don’t even have to play to get into the postseason, which is the case this year with the scoring Detroit Lions.

The roar has been restored, in a way, as the once hapless Detroit Lions have clinched their second playoff spot in four years after the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Washington Redskins on Saturday night. After the Eagles missed two critical field goals and committed a gaggle of penalties, the Redskins pulled off the upset win which was exactly what the Lions needed.

Now, the Lions are simply in the playoffs as a Wild Card team right now, they haven’t won the NFC North by any means. The Green Bay Packers will likely not lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon which means the NFC North division title will come down to the Week 17 meeting between the Packers and Lions.

Should the Packers lose, then the Lions will win the NFC North with nothing more than a win themselves. That’s a tall order given the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are being relied on here for positive results, but the Detroit Lions are at the very least in the postseason and will be heading to the playoffs as one of the hot teams to watch.
