The New York Yankees will pay for the education of the children of slain NYPD officer Rafeal Ramos.

Tho two were killed Saturday by a man who is believed to have announced on social media prior to the attack that he was seeking revenge on police after the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner

Ramos has a 13-year-old son and another son in college. Liu had no children.

The Yankees will pay for Ramos’ children’s education through the Yankee Silver Shield Foundation, created by former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner 32 years ago.  The foundation pays for the education of the children of New York City police officers, firemen and Port Authority employees who die in the line of duty.

This is obviously a fantastic thing for the Yankees to do and they deserve all the respect in the world for creating such a fantastic program. Of all Steinbrenner accomplished in his many years in baseball, this might be his greatest feat.

From everyone at FanSided, our thoughts and prayers go to the families of Ramos and Liu during this difficult time.
