The future of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is very much a hot topic in Chicago and around the NFL after he was benched entering Week 16, so if he’s gone next year could his friend and longtime teammate, Brandon Marshall be gone too?

More from Chicago Bears

Brandon Marshall came to the Bears in a trade prior to the 2012 season and was reunited with Jay Cutler who was his quarterback in the beginning of his career with the Denver Broncos. Their relationship facilitated the move for rookie general manager Phil Emery to ship a pair of third round draft picks to the Miami Dolphins for the Pro Bowl receiver.

The two have described their relationship as one similar to that of brothers, so if Cutler is traded or released at season’s end could Marshall request a trade despite recently signing an extension with the Bears?

Marshall and his wife welcomed twins to the world on Wednesday and has made the city of Chicago home for him and his family, so it would stand to reason that he’s perfectly content where he’s at.

But could the organization have different ideas if Emery is fired and a new GM comes in and wants to purge some older players and get some draft picks in return? That would seem to be a longshot, just as it would be a team taking on Cutler’s $15.5 million in guaranteed salary for next year, so for at least one more year the Cutler-Marshall brotherhood should continue with the Bears.

Marshall was limited by injury throughout the season before his season came to an end in early December with a collapsed lung and rib injury and finished with 61 receptions, 721 yards and eight touchdowns. This was his lowest reception total since his rookie year in 2006 and also the first time he didn’t have 1,000 yards his rookie season.
