Mariota also has a Heisman Trophy and a shot at the NCAA National Championship in his back pocket.

Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota has won another award on his way out the door of college football and on his way to the NFL.  The Associated Press has named him their player of the year on Tuesday.

This really should come as no shock to any of us; the Associated Press saw everything we saw this year, which was an excellent college football quarterback.  Mariota, who just won the Heisman ten days ago on December 13, threw for 3,783 yards, 38 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Mariota received 49 of 54 votes.  Alabama receiver Amari Cooper received three votes.  Each receiving one vote were Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.

Mariota is preparing to take his Oregon Ducks into The Rose Bowl against Florida State after rolling his way through the Pac-12.  The Ducks won the Pac-12 Championship after destroying the Arizona Wildcats in the Pac-12 Championship Game.  It was revenge for the only loss handed to Mariota and the Ducks this season.

Mariota becomes the eighth quarterback in the last nine years to win the AP award, but is the first in Oregon history to win it.  The competition gets tougher now with the Seminoles coming knocking, and if they beat them, then Mariota will have to take his talents up against the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Mariota is a junior but is fully expected to make this his last college football season and put his name in the hat for the NFL Draft.
