Michael Sam claims that fellow gay players reached out to him during his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams.

The NFL saw it’s first openly gay player, Michael Sam, get drafted by the St. Louis Rams last season and the media onslaught continued from there. Whether there was coverage that made some feel uncomfortable, or questions being asked that weren’t even necessary, it was a point in time where Sam was garnering national attention on a major scale.

Sam ended up being cut by the Rams, and proceeded to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. After a short tenure in Dallas, he ended up finding himself as an NFL free agent once again.

There have been differing opinions on whether or not Sam was cut because he simply wasn’t good enough, or if it was because of his sexual preferences. Either way, it has sparked a great debate and Sam will get his chance to talk about his experience with Oprah.

In the trailer talking about the new show coming out about Sam, he mentioned that fellow gay NFL players reached out to him. It shouldn’t be a surprise that there are other gay NFL players, but they haven’t chosen to come out publicly due to the media backlash. Take a look at Sam confirming that there were players coming out and talking to him about the issues that he was going through.

It will be interesting to see if Sam gets another chance to pursue his professional football career moving forward. There is no doubt that he has some potential, but he simply didn’t look good enough against the first and second team offensive line units. He’ll need to bulk up and work on getting quicker if he wants to make an NFL roster.

That being said, there is a good chance that another team will give him a shot this coming offseason and bring him in for training camp and preseason action.
