In a move that should come as no surprise, Georgia junior running back Todd Gurley is “moving on” according to head coach Mark Richt and entering the 2015 NFL Draft and could be one of the first running backs taken despite tearing his ACL against Auburn on Nov. 15.

Gurley entered the season as a Heisman candidate for the second straight year and looked the part in the season opener with 198 rushing yards and a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to set a program record for all-purpose yards.

Gurley had 773 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in the first five games of the season before he was held out amid an NCAA investigation he profited off his likeness and missed four games as a result of the suspension from the NCAA.

The 6-1, 226-pound back returned to the lineup for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry against Auburn on Nov. 15 and picked up where he left off in the beginning of the season with 138 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries in the 34-7 win, but the 29th carry would be the last in his Bulldog career as it resulted in a torn ACL.

Gurley was projected as a rare first round pick in a sign of his rare talent and ability considering the position has been undervalued in recent years with zero running backs drafted in the first in the last two drafts. Despite the torn ACL he should be one of the first two backs taken in the 2015 draft.
