Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks has died at the age of 83
There is some sad news to report from the world of Major League Baseball, as one of the true legends of the game has passed away. Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks has died Friday night at the age of 83.
Banks truly is one of the legends of the game of baseball, and he is a treasure to all the folks in the city of Chicago. He spent his entire career with the Cubs, beginning his stint with the club in 1953 at the age of 22. He would go on to play 19 years with the team until wrapping up his career in 1971. His last game came on Sept. 26 in 1971 at the age of 40.
Affectionately known to all as “Mr. Cub,” Banks ended his Hall of Fame career with a batting average of .274 with 512 home runs and 1,636 RBI, putting him in the illustrious 500 home run club.
With his 19-year career being one of the best in the history of the game, Banks was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977, being voted on 321 of 383 ballots.
No doubt, the baseball world lost a great one this Friday night with the passing of the man everyone knows as Mr. Cub.
