Liverpool are reportedly preparing a £38 million move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema

Liverpool fans around the world are licking their lips at the prospect of a striker who can actually score coming to the club. Obviously, they have the hope of Daniel Sturridge banging them in when he eventually returns to fitness, but I bet 99 percent of them would take Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema over Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and the massive flop that has been Mario Balotelli.

Liverpool are enjoying an upstart to their awful season of late, with eight victories in their last nine games but the question remains, how long they can maintain the run without a prolific striker?

Metro is reporting that Liverpool FC is preparing a mega bid for over $56m for Real Madrd starter Karim Benzema. There has been speculation similar to this before, but if Liverpool is to have any chance of competing for cups this year, they need to up their scoring rate.

What better way to do that than to sign a French striker who has been efficiently deadly his entire career.

Liverpool has struggled for goals after selling the hitman Luis Suarez, who was the EPL’s top scorer and joint top scorer across every European League last season. People put a lot of  faith into the rebel that is Mario Balotelli, with only two total goals and none in league play; the faith has not paid off.

Some people might say that the price tag for Benzema is inflated, but you have to take in to account the fact that Real Madrid need a reason to sell the French striker. In addition to that, if Liverpool were willing to spend £35m on Andy Carroll, surely to god Benzema is good for the extra £3m!

Liverpool currently sit in eighth-place in the English Premier League, which is way below the pre-season expectations. With only 16 league games remaining, they need to continue the recent good run of form they have been on. With four tough consecutive games against Everton, Southampton, Man City, and Tottenham coming up in February, this would be an ideal signing for Liverpool to make before the end of the January transfer window.

Whether or not it happens, only time will tell. I know that the majority of Liverpool fans are waiting patiently, and the neutral would be pleased due to the fact it would mean one of the top strikers in the world would be coming to the EPL.
