Baltimore Ravens cut Terrence Cody after animal cruelty allegations surface
By Kris Whelan
Baltimore Ravens cut nose tackle Terrence Cody on Friday due to investigations over animal cruelty.
Though Cody hasn’t been charged with a crime yet, it seems that he is a person of interest for the Baltimore County State Attorney’s office. The Raven’s announced today that he will be cut, and while no specific reason was give it’s no hard to connect the dots.

Cody was scheduled to become a free agent in March regardless of this scandal due to his contract expiring. Now he get’s an extra two months of limbo as the Baltimore Ravens have decided to cut him loose early.
The incident is reported to have involved a dog, with no other details to emerge. It echoes the scandal involving Michael Vick, who was convicted of being involved with dog fights which resulting in a prison term and a long vacation from the NFL.
Cody is yet to be charged with a crime, but The Baltimore Sun has reported that he is under investigation, which is as bad as it can get without actually being charged with anything.
Animal cruelty is no joke and neither is Cody losing his $730,000 contract. If things don’t go his way and he is convicted, it would be very difficult to come back to the league the way Michael Vick managed to do in 2009 when he signed for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Ravens were knocked out in the AFC Divisional Playoffs at the hands of the Patriots, who are currently in the midst of their own scandal, albeit one far less serious than Cody’s. The Ravens only featured Cody in one game for the last season, so cutting him lose ahead of his impeding free agency isn’t a devastating loss for the Ravens.
However, this is definitely a scandal that the Baltimore Ravens want to distance themselves from well in advance of any charges being issued, especially after the offseason they had last year when it came to abuse.
