St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott is in his second NHL All-Star Game this weekend, and he shows us that there’s never a bad time for a selfie.

If ever a guy should have had a selfie stick.

St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott took to the ice to defend the net during Breakaway Challenge during the NHL All-Star Skills Competition Saturday night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, but before getting down to business, he wanted to make sure he had the moment captured for posterity’s sake.

Of course the moment he decided to capture was his teammate going down the ice in the Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge.

As someone who has yet to snap my first selfie, I continue to not get the phenomenon of taking pictures of one’s self doing even the most mundane things, like standing on the ice at a hockey rink.

Then again, were I able to accomplish that feat—as opposed to landing flat on my keister on the ice at a hockey rink—that might be an event worthy of preserving.

But the selfie is powering the greatest age of narcissism in the history of mankind, so it’s good that mobile camera-phone technology isn’t being wasted on trivial things.

But Elliott certainly would have scored much higher on the style-point scale had he fashioned his goalie stick into a selfie stick.

That would have been true innovation at work.
