Charles Woodson, Oakland Raiders agree to 1-year extension
It looks like a familiar face will be returning to the AFC West as the Oakland Raiders and defensive-back Charles Woodson have agreed to a 1-year extension, as the team announced through it’s official Twitter account.
Following the release, the Raiders released a video of Woodson explaining his decision to come back for year 18 of his Hall of Fame career.
“I get the opportunity to keep doing what I love and to keep having fun. I have a great respect for the game and I’m able to go out there and continue to play at a high level the way I’ve done my whole life, so I feel like why not.”
“I want to be apart of the team and hopefully it can happen this year, where we get back into the playoffs and have a shot at [a Super Bowl], so I’m still searching for that.”

Though one often forgets Woodson is still apart of the NFL family, it’s nice to see a future legend continue on the field as he hopes to help lift the Raiders out of playoff purgatory (Oakland hasn’t made the playoffs since 2002 when they lost in the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
Starting his career off with the Raiders in 1998, he returned to the franchise in 2013 after a seven-year stretch with the Green Bay Packers (won a championship in 2011). This past season, Woodson tallied a career-high in tackles with 112 (82 solo — partly because of the switch to safety after years of playing cornerback), 4 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery.
At this point, there’s little Woodson can do to add to his case to be in the Hall of Fame. As of now, Woodson is 11h all-time in career interceptions, the second most by an active player behind Ed Reed (64). Woodson is also 5th all-time in non-offensive touchdowns with 13, only trailing the likes of Devin Hester, Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, and Ronde Barber. Depending on the group he with’s when he hits the mark for Hall of Fame eligibility, Woodson could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Woodson will be 39 in October.
