Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus.

It looks like the Eastern Conference will be without another one it’s starting point guard for some time.

Announced by the Charlotte Hornets public relations account, guard Kemba Walker has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee.

While the Hornets shied away from releasing a set recovery time, Yahoo! scribe Adrian Wojnarowski says the guard will be out at least six weeks.

For a team that was streaking toward playoff contention prior to a 39-point beat down at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers (have won 8 of their last 10), this injury to Walker couldn’t have come at a worst time.

With Lance Stephenson and Al Jefferson in and out of the lineups with injury, Walker has been tasked with carrying the team, averaging 18.8 points on 39 percent shooting, 3.8 rebounds, but without they’ll have to rely on a gimpy Jefferson and the gimpy/underachieving Stephenson to stay afloat at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

In an attempt to offset the loss of Kemba Walker, Woj reports the team is currently looking at adding a point guard via the trade market.

Neither Sessions or Cole are talented enough to fill the hole an injury to Walker leaves void, but if the Hornets want the most Kemba-like player, Sessions would be a better fit than Cole as Cole has never been an above-average scorer in his NBA career.

Though Sessions is currently having a career-worst year in several categories, in 2013-14, the point guard averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game as a member of the Hornets (then-Bobcats) organization.

All-in-all, it’s going to be an interesting six weeks for the Hornets. Because the bottom of the Eastern Conference has played poorly, there may still be a chance for Charlotte to make the playoffs as the Nets are currently trending down and Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings is set to miss the rest of the season after tearing his Achilles against the Milwaukee Bucks — the next closest team in the standings to Charlotte outside of the aforementioned teams is the Boston Celtics and they have no intentions of making the playoffs.

As of now, the Hornets are 19-26 on the season.
