The troubled Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon could be returning as soon as next season

Justin Blackmon was sure to tear up the league when he came out of Oklahoma State. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to get out of his own way since entering the league. Now, Blackmon could finally be on the road to recovery and could be back suited up in a Jaguars uniform as early as this season.

Blackmon, who wasn’t with the Jaguars for the 2014 season, was dealing with fixing his substance abuse issues after he was arrested for Marijuana possession in his native Oklahoma.

He was initially suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season when he violated the league’s substance abuse policy. Later in the year, he was suspended indefinitely for violating it again.

After missing most of the last two years because of his issues off the field, Blackmon has a chance to get back on and be a huge difference maker for Jacksonville, which is what they intended for him to be when they drafted him in 2012.

Now, according to Alex Marvez, Blackmon is indeed overcoming his issues and people expect him to be back.

With Blake Bortles the future under center for Jacksonville, they need to surround him with help. Last year rookie receivers Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee proved to be weapons for the rookie quarterback.

Adding Blackmon, who can be dynamic when his head is on straight, will only sure to make the Jacksonville offensive attack take off. The Jaguars ranked only 31st in the league in passing yards last season and they need all the help they can get.

That doesn’t even take into account whatever the Jaguars might do in the draft to add to their young offensive core.

It’s good to see Blackmon overcoming his issues and being able to get back to working on getting back out on the field. You never want to see someone’s career derailed due to personal issues.

If Bortles can take another step as a quarterback, and Blackmon can return to the team and be productive, their passing yards rank will surely increase.
