New Orleans Saints’ tight end Jimmy Graham wants to dunk on goal posts again

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham is not only became famous for his incredible play on the field and the ability to score touchdowns, he became famous for being able to dunk the football over the goal post. After the league took that away from him, he no longer could do what he loves to do most, celebrate. At the Pro Bowl in Glendale, AZ on Sunday, Graham once again dunked the football to the delight of many watching in the stands and around the world.

Graham, the 6-foot-7 product out of Miami, is one of the main targets of quarterback Drew Brees in New Orleans and scored 10 touchdowns this year, which led the team.

However, missing on those scores were his patented dunks, which the New Orleans fans love.

The NFL took away dunking on goal posts and started fining players for doing so this past year after Graham dunked on a post too hard and it became unbalanced.

Graham had so much fun being able to dunk again after he scored for Team Irvin that he wants the NFL to allow him to dunk and celebrate again.

“That was amazing. For me, it made the entire week,” Graham said to the Associated Press, “Hopefully, one day they’ll look back and change this rule so I can do it in a real game. And hopefully one day in the Super Bowl.”

The NFL has made their celebration rules even more restrictive as the years have gone on and it is doubtful they would change a rule to allow dunking on goal posts, especially if the dunks are knocking the field goal posts off balance and could have an effect on the kicking game.

Graham comes from a basketball background and is paying homage to the game that was influential in getting him to the NFL.

Maybe the NFL will allow layups or three-pointers if they won’t allow dunks on the goal posts. There has to be some way Graham can celebrate his touchdowns.
