Wild pitch lands in cricket batsman’s helmet (Video)

Watch as this wild pitch gets stuck in the Riki Wessels’ helmet, saving him from serious injury.
Cricket is a pretty fascinating sport and interesting to watch. Bowler Kane Richardson very nearly delivered a wild pitch that would have seriously injured Wessels. With speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, that ball would have done some major damage to Wessels’ head.

It is no wonder he takes the helmet off and kisses the mask, as anyone who has ever been hit by a baseball or softball can attest that is one heck of a wake-up call to have a ball hit you in the head.
In what was a pretty nice show of sportsmanship, Richardson rushes over to Wessels to offer an apology of sorts. Wessels seems to be all smiles after the incident, but this is one that makes you wince no matter how many times you watch it. Had that space in his helmet been about half an inch wider, this story would have had a very different outcome, but I imagine Wessels is glad that he can look back and laugh about it.
In case you were wondering, Wessels and his Sydney Sixers won the game and advance to the finals of the Big Bash League.
