The murder trial for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been delayed until Thursday in lieu of the blizzard that hit the East Coast.

Aaron Hernandez will face trial on Thursday in Bristol County Superior County after it was originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday, per the Hartford Courant. The crippling blizzard that left several feet of snow in Boston and New York City delayed that start until Thursday after the court had gathered an 18-person jury on Monday.

Hernandez will stand trial for the 2012 murder of friend and former semi-pro football player, Odin Lloyd. Judge E. Susan Garsh will oversee the trial and it was her decision to delay it given how much shoveling those in the greater New England area have ahead of them.

Aaron Hernandez is likely in no hurry to get things under ways as it is. His case could be made even more difficult if Hernandez’s fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, is granted immunity against her perjury charge in exchange for testifying against the former tight end. Jenkins allegedly helped Hernandez disposed of the gun reportedly used to kill Lloyd.

As of Tuesday, however, no such immunity agreement has been signed, and the prosecution will be without the testimony of Jenkins.

The Odin Lloyd case stands as the tip of the iceberg as far as the charges being levied against Aaron Hernandez. In all, the former Florida University star faces 14 charges that range from another murder charge to a weapons charge to one of Hernandez’s role in a jailhouse fight at Bristol County House of Correction.

Hundreds are set to testify, including New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft. Former teammates Brandon Spikes and Maurkice Pouncey, both of whom also attended the University of Florida, will also be summoned to testify in a case that took the NFL by storm last year and has since taken on a life of its own in the pre-trial proceedings that ensued this fall.

Things got so hairy with the Hernandez trial that a judge actually had to lay out rules that prohibit anyone attending the court case from wearing a Patriots jersey.

There’s plenty of emotion and conjecture in the lengthy pre-trial process of the Aaron Hernandez case, but much of that will come to an end on Thursday, when the prosecution finally unleashes the full gamut of evidence and Hernandez’s lawyers get a chance to respond.
