Diego Costa has today been charged by the English Football Association for Violent Conduct

Chelsea’s star striker has been charged by the EPL’s governing body over his stomp during the Capital One Cup Semi Final against Liverpool yesterday. The aggressive front man was in the news straight after the game for a few reasons, and other than winning the game there was no reason for Costa to be pleased with his performance.

He was booked during the game, but according to most people around the world, he was very lucky to have stayed in the game. He is being charged by the FA over his stomp on Liverpool’s Emre Can, but there were one or two other incidents that could have gotten him in trouble during the game.

It appears that Costa intentionally stood on Can after the Liverpool man kicked the ball away. According to Sky Sports, the referee during the game Michael Oliver has since come out and said that if he saw the incident during the game he would have sent him off.

It means that if found guilty, which seems very likely after the referee’s comments, Costa will miss out on three games for Chelsea.

That is definitely not something the London club need coming in to the business end of the season.

As previously mentioned, Costa could easily have been punished for a separate incident involving Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel. The FA have reviewed that incident separately and have decided the matter didn’t warrant any further punishment. Judge for yourself;

Costa has a reputation for agressive play and getting in defender’s faces, it’s just his style of play but it seems that he went too far against Liverpool.

The striker has already been suspended for accumulating too many yellow cards at the start of the season.

Liverpool fans will no doubt be happy if the Striker get’s a ban, but it must leave a bitter taste in their mouth that the referee has admitted the striker should have been sent off. How different would the result have been if Chelsea were down to 10 men that early in the game? We will never know.

Chelsea is currently atop the EPL by five points with 16 games remaining in the season.
