In an attempt to improve his team, Eric Decker is recruiting Broncos receiver and free agent Demaryius Thomas to the Jets.

How sweet of New York Jets wide reciever Eric Decker. To make up for what can be described as a forgettable season in 2014, Decker is shifting from receiver to recruit as the wide out is attempting to lure former Denver Broncos teammate Demaryius Thomas to the Jets this sumemr.

From the New York Post:

“I’ve been pushing for the entire year now,” Decker said in a telephone interview with The Post. “It was just another opportunity to talk to him about it. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I think it would be tough for Denver to let him go. So whether they franchise-tag him here in the next month or give him a long-term deal, he’s just one of those premier players in this league. If he happens to make it to free agency, I would love to sign him because playing alongside him for four years and especially the last two years made it a lot of fun and made it a lot easier. He’s just one of the great players in this league.”

Whether the starting quarterback next season for the Jets is Michael Vick, Geno Smith, a veteran nabbed in free agency, or a young guy acquired in the NFL Draft, a Decker-Thomas-Percy Harvin combination is a solid receiving core, especially if Harvin can stay healthy and focused.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Thomas is one of the ten best receivers in the game, blossoming under the tutelage of Peyton Manning through the last two seasons. For the 2014 season, Thomas had his best season yet, tallying 1619 receiving yards (2nd in league behind Antonio Brown) and 11 receiving touchdowns (tied for 11th in league).

For the group of people who believe Thomas is a product of Peyton Manning, think again — with Tim Tebow, Thomas proved to be a solid player, with 551 yards and 4 touchdowns in 11 games; with a better quarterback in NY, those numbers would improve.

With Thomas a free agent this summer, it’s safe to say his decision, like many of the other Broncos free agents, relies heavily on another decision: the one of Peyton Manning.

If his recent comments mean anything, it looks like Peyton will return to the NFL. There are obstacles to climb, mainly that of injuries which affected him greatly through the second half of the season and playoffs, but he sounds like a man who wants one more shot at a Super Bowl before hanging it all up.

As we’ve seen in the NFL, friendship goes a long way in situations such as this. With as big a wildcard as Peyton Manning in the equation, it’s going to be difficult judging whether Thomas stays in Colorado (money could play a huge part here) or heads East to play for the new-look Jets.
